Architecture, Historical Place

Manila’s historical places

It’s been a long long while .. Haha I’ve been busy at school and life in general. This blog is about some of Philippines historical places, enjoy!

For our humanities final project we decided to do a short documentary about Manila’s historical places, so here are the two places.

Manila Central Post Office

It was built in 1926, as you can see it portrays a neo classical architecture and it is located in Ermita, Intramuros. It also witnessed many of the nations historical events from the American Occupation to the battle of Manila in 1945.

It was also my first time going here and I must say that it’s really an amazing experience, there’s so many places that I haven’t explored yet. I guess it’s good to start exploring within your country  because there’s a lot to explore to, there’s so many hidden gems within my country and I’m proud of that.

Binondo Chruch

Binondo, The World’s Oldest China Town. This Church was build in 1596 by the Dominican Priest, it was one of the oldest churches in the Philippines and it is also the home of our very first saint ‘San Lorenzo Ruiz’.

Binondo is a district in Manila and is a home for the migrant Chinese way back hundreds of centuries, and this church is the center of the said district. The architecture of the church has the touch of Spanish, Filipino and Chinese structure and this church is considered one of the beautiful churches in the country.

Wandering around the streets of this old china town and seeing how beautiful it is and the people here makes me want to go back in time, I wanted to see and experience how everything works back then. I think one of the good thing about our little escapade is that it’s amazing how they manage to maintain everything, and how intact the people are.

Excerpt, Poem

I want you to remeremember the very first time we saw each other.

The first time you saw me and all you could do was stare, and suddenly everything’s in slowmo .. It’s as if there’s a certain song playing on the background. But all I can do is ignore you.

It’s as if I never find you cute or we can never see each other, because it’s a big world out here and all of the thousands of people I’ll walk past by again on this crowded street I don’t think I will bumped into again.

But then the universe has it’s way, and I want you to remember the first time you said “hi” while I was standing there waiting for the bus. My mom taught me to never talk to strangers, so I just nod at your approach .. But on that day I felt like I want to make a conversation with a mere stranger on the bus stop.

I want you to remember the first time you held my hand, how you held it tight like there’s no tomorrow. It was like you’re holding my heart in your hands and it’s warm and it feels like home.

I want you to remember our first kiss,  how it felt like everything because you are my everything.

I want you to remember this day. No, I want you to remember everything, over and over again. How I find you cute staring at me on that crowded street and how I silently wish that we can cross each other’s path again. How I like the sound of your voice saying “hi” on the bus stop when you’re just a mere stranger.

How I don’t want to let go of your hand, coz I know that it’s where my heart belongs. How that kiss, the taste of your lips still lingers .. and it hurts, it still hurts. Why does it hurt? Why does it have to be the last? Why do you have to leave? Why do I have to feel this alone? Why? ..

I want you to remember me, and how I loved you. But I guess I’ll be the one remembering and you’ll be the one forgetting.

What our eyes sees (my own perception)

Are we seeing life as it is? Being able to see things is one way of god’s telling us that even we live in this chaotic and complicated word we are still lucky. There are people who see things differently, maybe he/she sees you as beautiful or maybe he/she thinks you’re not.
In what way do we actually see things or someone? Is is just by merely looking at it? Maybe yes, as per the saying ‘what you see is what you get’ but maybe then no, because we don’t know what he/she is feeling or thinking.

When we were kids we see the world as a playground, we don’t care about the problems and the hardships because we only care about how we could run fast and win over our playmates.

But as we grow older by then we are able to see that the world is not as beautiful as it is when we were kids, we learn that we have to win not over our playmates but with our fears … That it’s okay to fail. That the world is still beautiful inspite of the mess and the damages it has, that the eyes capture the things the camera has failed to do.

Snow Panda

It’s been a while! But Anyways, it’s getting hotter nowadays here at the Philippines .. Summer is here I guess and  I’m pretty excited. So, Here’s another Korean Dessert Café blog. Enjoy!

Snow Panda

It’s a Korean Dessert Café that I’ve been wanting to try ever since it started franchising here in the philippines, they offer different flavors of bingsu (shaved ice) they also have waffles and toast, special tea, and cool drinks to match up the hot weather.

The place is really good, comfy sofa’s and it has a very nice ambiance, not too spacy tho but it’s good if you want to have alone time.  There’s cute panda display at the entrance too welcoming you.

We ordered cookies and cream frappe and choco java chip frappe. Choco Java Chip suits my taste buds coz I really love frappe, cookies and cream is too sweet it’s like they poured a lot of sugar.

The Special waffle with mango on top with some chocolate syrup and vanilla ice cream. It’s not that good, the waffle is not fully cooked plus it is plain, we’re not that satisfied with how the waffle is too plain. It’s  6/10, not bad tho. Still looking forward to try their bingsu.

Spicy Rice Cake?!

Heard of it?! Nah?! Well Korea has it.

We went to Hobing a Korean Dessert Café, the place was good for hanging out and if you’re a K-Pop fanatic (like me) you’ll enjoy the food while watching you’re favorite Korean Music Video (because they played it there and it’s awsome!)
Tteukbokki it’s one of the famous Korean Street Food you must try when you visit Korea, it’s our first time trying it .. So basically one bowl is good for 2-3 persons. It comes with a fish cake, sausages and motzarella cheese on top. While ordering they will ask you what level of spicyness you like so if you’re a spicy food lover you can try the extra spicy one but since it’s our first time we ordered the mild one. The thing is it’s still super spicy ~ but we loved it, it has a distinct after taste that let’s you eat more.

(I looooove the sausages!)

To minimize the spicyness we also ordered my all time favorite, Honey Butter Toast! It actually tones down the spicyness of the tteukbokki since it’s sweet and it has vanilla ice cream on top.

Lastly, the never ending bingsu! They actually have different flavors of bingsu but we haven’t tried those so maybe next time. But this one’s a must try! Definitely.

To wrap it up, here’s our snap.

A taste of Seolhwa

Seoul, Korea. It’s one of my dream destination but since I’m still studying I’d like to experience Korea here in the PH (not literally) but the food, of course we have it here in PH.

Cafe Seolhwa. It’s a Korean dessert cafe which serves different types of Korea’s best dessert’s. We ordered three different flavors of shaved ice (it was heaven) my cousin ordered mango cheese, and chocolate bingsu, while i ordered brownie bingsu with some honey butter toast. I still taste how satisfying the bingsu and the toast was, all i can say is that I’ve tasted Korea and it was amazing. Hehe.

The shaved ice was to die for, it has a snow like texture that literally melts in your mouth. One bowl is more likely good for two persons but we ordered one for each. Since it’s shaved ice I thought that the brownies would froze but it’s not! It’s still chewy and yummy.

I’ve been to café seolhwa many times and I’d always love to come back and try different flavors of bingsu and of course the place was really comfy. ❤
